What is Kiln Shell Anchor Welding ?
Kiln shell anchor welding is the process of joining metal anchors to the shell of a rotary kiln to secure and support the internal refractory lining. These anchors help prevent the heavy refractory lining from collapsing, sliding down or buckling under the combined effects of intense thermal stress and continuous kiln rotation. Therefore, the anchor welding is a critical connection between the kiln shell and the refractory system, making the choice of welding electrode important for reliable service.
The Problem :
When Refractory Moves, the Kiln Cannot Perform Reliably
Refractory collapse, sliding or buckling can compromise the lining and expose the kiln shell to severe operating conditions.
The anchor weld therefore becomes a critical maintenance point. Its function is not simply weld the anchor to the kiln shell, the weld must provide reliable mechanical attachment while withstanding the thermal conditions and stress generated during kiln operation.
Senor Recommendation for KILN Shell Anchor welding
SENOR SME A26 – Austenitic Heat-Resistant Electrode
Technical Advantage :
SME A26 provides heat resistance up to 1200°C in oxidizing and sulphur-free atmosphere.
Excellent elongation of approx. 30 to 35%, while producing high strength, ductile joints capable of accommodating thermal and mechanical stresses.
It also offers smooth, rapid and spatter-free deposition, supporting efficient welding during repair and maintenance operations. The weld deposit is based on an Fe–Ni–Cr alloy combination.
This makes SME A26 particularly suitable for demanding heat-resistant welding applications.
Applications :
SENOR SME A26 is recommended for:
Kiln Shell Anchor Welding of Cement & Sponge Iron Plants | Welding of Austenitic Stainless Steel | Heat-Resistant Steel | 25Cr/20Ni Steel | Annealing covers | Heat Exchangers | Heat-Treating Boxes & Baskets
Don’t treat a high-temperature anchor welding as an ordinary welding job.
Choose a welding electrode designed for the thermal conditions of the application.
If you require electrodes for kiln shell anchor welding, other high-temperature applications or welding any critical component, share job details and operating conditions with SENOR.
