What Are Sinter Breakers & Grizzly Bars ?

In a steel plant, sinter breakers and grizzly bars work together at the hot sinter discharge. The sinter breaker helps break oversized sinter lumps, while grizzly bars support and separate the material as it passes through the system. These components are subjected to continuous abrasion, impact and high temperature, making wear resistance critical for reliable operation

Application :

Sinter Breaker / Grizzly Bar – Steel Plant

Sinter breakers and grizzly bars operate in demanding steel-plant environments where components are continuously exposed to abrasion, impact and elevated temperature. The application material identifies special-alloy steel / EN19 as the base materials for these components.

The Problem :

Three-Way Wear: Abrasion + Impact + High Temperature

Sinter-handling components face a combination of severe operating stresses.

Abrasive contact progressively removes material from the working surface, while impact subjects the component to repeated mechanical loading. At the same time, high operating temperature adds another challenge to maintaining surface performance.

For such conditions, conventional rebuilding may not provide the required wear resistance.

The solution must address wear — not merely restore dimensions.

Senor Product :

SENOR SME G65 – Refractory Carbide Hardfacing Electrode.

SENOR recommends SME G65 for sinter breakers and grizzly bars.

SME G65 is a refractory carbide hardfacing electrode developed for demanding wear applications and is specified to withstand temperatures of up to 800°C.

Technical Advantage :

60–68 Rc Hardness + High-Temperature Resistance

SME G65 produces a hardfacing deposit with a specified hardness of 60–68 Rc, combining high surface hardness with resistance to elevated-temperature service.

Its alloy system includes Cr, Mn, Mo, Nb, W and V in a eutectic matrix, providing the basis of its refractory-carbide hardfacing characteristics.

Abrasion + Impact + Heat → Refractory Carbide Hardfacing → High Hardness + Temperature Resistance

Applications :

SME G65 is recommended for:

Sinter Breakers | Sinter Grizzlies | Foundry Mixer Blades and other demanding wear applications where abrasion, impact and elevated temperature are critical factors.

Is Wear Reducing The Life of Your Steel-Plant Components ?

Don’t simply rebuild a worn component.

Select a hardfacing electrode that suitable for the actual operating temperature and impact level.

Eg. A very hard deposit may have excellent abrasion resistance, but be too brittle for severe impact. It can crack or spall off.

Share your component, base material, operating temperature and wear conditions with SENOR for a suitable hardfacing recommendation.
